here's to the trini gals

i've been back in canada for about 6 weeks now. .. a little off the radar obviously. i've heard that a few of you are still actually looking for updates here which is a revelation, so! here ya go...

in trinidad i became very clear on setting up a project that i've wanted to start for quite some time... working on it here is almost a full-time job. a non-paying full time job, which is ok with me ( i hear certain people gasping, or saying 'all along this is the attitude that has gotten her...- fill in the blank - ), but i am starting to think that i need to construct some real financial security in my life. not as in settling down with a home and a 9-5 career (now I'M gasping), but rather just a more mindful approach to how i use my money. it's becoming more and more clear that that's a tool i need in order to live my live the way i really want to (which is a weird paradox of travelling lots, having fashionable shoes and giving money to people far poorer than me), so money-making/budgeting/investing lessons are very much needed!

funny... i'm back 'home' technically speaking, but still living out of a bag (mostly), only this time the landscape of my travels is suburbia which deserves a whole cultural investigation of its own. i thought perhaps when i got back here i'd have nothing to write about, but i may have to seriously take up 'experiments in seeing' in this here cold, bleak, grey suburb. try and find a little bit of life and beauty which i know is lurking around somewhere. it's not really as bad as i'm making it sound. today i decided to be like a traveller here... went for a 2 hour walk and found interesting cafes, a book store, a performance centre and a dance school.
still, i cannot believe it's happening already... i am finding myself filling up with a major desire to leave again. to go far away out of the country. although my heart is very intent on setting up the teaching project i'm working on, i find myself wondering how i might spend a few months abroad while the process to set up an official organization is working itself out. more to come... i'm going to sit with that for awhile before i do anything much about it. perhaps it's just the cold of winter. or perhaps it's because i'm feeling very unsettled here with no home to call my own, and i would rather be unsettled in a new environment than in the burbs.
hmmmmm.....
anyway, finally got some photos downloaded. karaoke at my going-away fete.
here's to my trini gals.
